Week 15

Getting to work with my peers during this course was enjoyable. Both the debate we gave not too long ago, as well as tonight's presentation gave me the pleasure to get to know my classmates. We have switched phone numbers and kept in contact throughout this course.

For tonight's presentation, Angel, Ruth and myself put in the right amount of effort to present. I presented to Ruth and Angel a list of topics to choose from. Ruth and Angel chose one each. Ruth made it easier for us and went ahead and chose the final topic as Angel's choice, drug abuse. She then broke it down in 3 sections which we split between us 3:

1. Statistics on drug abuse

2. How it effects people's lives

3. What could be done to decrease number and what is the U.S. doing wrong currently.

I enjoyed researching this topic, as this topic is also looked down upon in some areas in the world just like mental health (the other group's presentation, which I loved). I love that both groups chose topics that are real and are currently a problem in the U.S.

Whoever gets the opportunity to read this blog: I highly recommend you watch the documentary "The Pharmacist" on Netflix. Ruth mentioned that the U.S. experienced a spike in use of drugs/deaths due to drug abuse from 1999 and on. We learn why in the documentary. I think everyone will enjoy it!

  1. Drug abuse is definitely an important topic. I think that with everyone being quarantined with this pandemic, drug abuse is probably on the rise (my own opinion) as people are becoming more and more depressed. The holidays, while happy for some, are a very difficult time for others who may not have loving family around them. There are others who have lost loved ones, and the holidays seem to bring out those emotions even stronger than at other times of the year.

I'm happy that your group experience was a positive one. Many times, that is not the case since sometimes not all group members will pull their own weight. So happy that it went well!

  2. Ruba, I thought you guys did an excellent job on your presentation! And for our presentation a few weeks ago with the debate....I thought we killed it! It was great getting to know you and the others throughout the course of this class and to hear everyone's stories from week to week. Public speaking never seems to come as an easy task, however I thought you and everyone else did a fantastic job with every assignment. Because of this, it seemed to make speaking from week to week a little less stressful and more enjoyable.

    1. I really enjoyed your groups presentation! I did not know most of the information that you guys talked about so I really liked learning more about such a serious topic. Public speaking is still pretty to me, even after several months in this class, but it is not as scary as it was before!
